In the 24th year of the annual Parkes Elvis Festival, we finally made it. I’d been looking forward to taking in the sights of the festival for some years, and this year we took out Bettie the vintage caravan, and stayed for two nights to take in a slice of what the festival has on offer, along with a group of our (rather fabulously dressed) friends.
We were not disappointed.
The entire community of Parkes pulls together for this event. It’s all about participation, as you’ll see below. My husband Berndt captured the sights of the festival, including some of the many Elvii (the common usage plural of ETAs, or Elvis Tribute Artists) the parade, and the Ultimate Elvis competition finals – and even the Elvis custard tart.
A big thanks to the community of Parkes for being so welcoming during our surprise visit, and special thanks to everyone who let us photograph them, including our patient friends Suzie, Sharelyn, Kane, Adam, Erin, Jaci, Vicki and Kate. Much gratitude also to mini-Elvii George, 2 and Oscar 4, (seen below in gold glasses and little white Elvis jumpsuits) and Kristy Berry for letting us hang out in her beautiful vintage caravan Violet Rose. And the top three finalists in the Ultimate Elvis Competition for posing for the final photo of our trip, including Moses Kasses (blue jacket), Brendan Chase (with red cape), and Jack Gatto who was crowned Australia’s Ultimate Elvis.
